What other instrument(s) do you play outside OSO?
Cello
At what age did you begin playing your primary instrument?
4
What motivated you to become a musician?
I was fascinated with the brilliance and artistry of virtuoso violin recordings as a child. I have core memories of listening to canonic violin literature on repeat and aspiring to play like the "old pros" in the recordings. As an adult, I'm inspired by communities and artists that come together as "part time musicians" and manage to pull off incredible acts of musical ability.
Outside of group rehearsals, approximately what length of time and/or how many times per week do you practice your instrument?
6-8 hours per week.
Did you attend college for your instrument? Do you continue to take lessons?
I have my bachelors in arts (music performance), and did not seek higher education beyond that.
Tell us a little about your family.
I'm married to Christina, a cellist in OSO. We have been married for coming on 11 years. We have a dog Ginger.
Do you have any words of encouragement for someone who dreams of becoming a musician?
Don't stop! It's going to seem hard, busy, and sometimes it will feel like there are just too many notes. I still feel that way. Persevere, the art will prevail.
